Winter is a great time to embrace the Slow Life. In August we have the Slow Food Marketplace @AUT, and in September our Quarterly Book Club. You’re warmly invited to both — and do check out the AUT Culinary Arts and Gastronomy Winter Series, running 10–14 August.

Slow Food Marketplace@AUT – Wednesday August 12th – 10am to 2pm
Our third Slow Food Marketplace at AUT is here — and we’d love to see you there!
Come shop, taste and meet the people behind your food.
Support local artisans and producers including Mushroom Mate, Earthbound Honey, Foundry Chocolate, Red Hot Kiwi, Azzuro Epicurean and A Lady Butcher.
Find us in the foyer of the Sir Paul Reeves Building at AUT.
The Marketplace is a collaboration between Slow Food, Pacific Food Lab – Aotearoa and the AUT Centre for Critical Food Studies, School of Hospitality & Tourism.

Slow Food @AUT Book Club – Sunday September 13th – 12 noon to 2pm
Good food, food stories and great conversation — our Quarterly Book Club is one of our favourite ways to gather. We meet over a relaxed shared lunch and we have room for a couple of new members. Get in touch if you’d like to be part of it. Our September book is Disney Moana: The Official Cookbook by Monique Fiso & Katie Monteith. Join the young wayfinder Moana and her village on an epic culinary adventure that champions the food culture of the Pacific.

Culinary Arts and Gastronomy Winter Series – August 10th to 14th
Discover a vibrant programme of talks and events exploring food, culture, and storytelling, and celebrating the diverse food traditions that shape kai in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. Find out more.

Remembering our founder Carlo Petrini 1949 – 2026
The Slow Food community celebrates the life of its founder, Carlo Petrini, whose vision transformed a local movement into a global force for good, clean, and fair food. We are profoundly grateful for his leadership, generosity, and unwavering belief that food has the power to connect people, protect biodiversity, and create a more just world.

Disco Soup Rocked

55 litres of soup. 9 trays of pastries. 200+ people fed. Zero waste. A little dancing. On Friday 24 April, @pfl.aotearoa x @slowfoodaotearoa marked 10 years of Disco Soup — the @slowfoodyouthnetwork tradition of turning rescued kai into something nourishing and joyful. Food saved from AUT Hospitality and Tourism classes, 100 mugs rescued from @unicommunitygarden, and a community that showed up with their own bowls. Every detail told the story.
